“TAKE HIM TO THE RANCH”
Writer: Mitch Stephen
[verse]
Well I’ve had enough, of his Nine ta Five
His desk and chair, robs me of my life
Loadin’ down that ice chest
I’m gonna screw his workday up
I don't care if I have ta tie him in the bed a my truck
[verse]
I'm gonna take'im to the country
Down a gravel road
He's gonna kiss me under...
“Lover’s Oak”
This is my weekend plan
I'm gonna take'im to the ranch
[verse]
I'm gonna take'im to the sticks
Where we can skinny dip
I packed nothin’ but his boots and his cowboy hat
I'm gonna take'im to the ranch
[chorus]
TV reception ain’t worth a damn
The phones don't work, baby that's the plan
He'll have nothin' to see but the moon and me
Hey I'm lookin' for a little romance
Gonna take'im to the country
I'm gonna take'im to the ranch
[verse]
By the time I pull in it's gonna feel like heaven’s gate
I'll make'im walk the dog
While I change the combo on the chain
He ain't talkin' no business
He ain't takin' no friends
He's gonna be pretty damn tired
When this weekend ends
I'm gonna take'im to the country
I'm gonna take'im to the ranch
[instrumental]
[chorus]
TV reception ain’t worth a damn
The phones don't work, baby that's the plan....
He'll have nothin' to see but the moon and me

I'ma take'im to the country
I'm gonna take'im to the ranch
I'm gonna take’im to the country
I'm gonna take'im to the ranch
We gone!
It's on....

COULD A LOVE SONG
Co-writer: Mitch Stephen
[verse]
My pen’s workin’ overtime
Tryin’ na find a dozen lines
That’ll make you, change your point of view
[verse]
And I been strummin’ these strings so hard
I wore a hole in my ol’ guitar
But it’s alright, if I can change your mind
[pre chorus]
And tell me…
Are there any words might be said
‘Fore my pen writes blood red
[chorus]
Could a love song ever turn your love back on
Is there a line or rhyme a man might write
To change your mind
Could a melody sung sweet
Ever bring you back to me
Could a love song ever turn your love back on
[verse]
And if you’re thinkin’ that I’m givin’ up
You better stop and take another look
‘Cause I’m still right here, where I’ve always been
[verse]
If I could only find the words to say
What’s in this heart ev’ry night and day
I’m sure you’d stop, and let this love back in
[pre chorus]
Until then…
Don’t know nothin’ else to do
But strum three chords and tell the truth
[chorus]
Could a love song ever turn your love back on
Is there a line or rhyme a man might write
To change your mind
Could a melody sung sweet
Ever bring you back to me
Could a love song ever turn your love back on
Could a love song ever turn your love back on
[instrumental]
[bridge]
Every body says I aughta writer off
I guess I’ve tried but I’m not that strong
For ev’ry line I beg and plead
I try an write a line of dignity
But you know that’s getting’ hard
It's getting haaaaard
[chorus]
Could a love song ever turn your love back on
Is there a line or rhyme a man might write
To change your mind
Could a melody sung sweet
Ever bring you back to me
Could a love song ever turn your love back on
Could a love song ever turn your love back on
I once witness a very good friend's home get demolished by bulldozers. He use to live in the country, but the urban sprawl caught up to his homestead...12 acres and 2 houses. His father had bought the place decades ago. He was born in the oldest house. He raised his family in the other house. Now there is a housing subdivision there...unrecognizable!

HOUSE ON HAUSMAN RD.
Writer: Mitch Stephen
My daddy bought this place in 1941
When ol’ man Gus had to sell off
I use to hunt this land
Back when I was young
And long before the urban sprawl
My grandchildren like to play
Right there on that swing
Where Daddy drank his beer
And Momma loved her shade
Now they’ll cut those Oak trees down today
[chorus]
Another road is bein’ paved
Another high rise bein’ raised
Some monumental feat
In some developer’s grand scheme
Another paged tore from my past
Erased off of the map
I don’t think they could ever know
They’ll tear down more than sticks and stones
When they lay low, that house on Houseman road
[verse]
The bulldozer operator’s scraping off the ground
Beyond what I can recognize
The demolition man is taking out the doors
And all the windows and the lights
Every piece could tell a story
But most will go untold
Except the pieces in my pick-up truck
And their stories will grow old
[chorus]
Another road is bein’ paved
My foot steps all but erased
And I know my old man’s probl’y
Rollin’ over in his grave
Another paged tore from my past
oh no there ain’t no goin’ back
And where I go from here
Heaven only knows
When they lay low, that house on Houseman road
[bridge]
Burger Kings
A Stop N Go
Famous hotel chain built right across the road
It makes me think
When I’m alone
There is no place I can call home
[chorus]
Another road is bein’ paved
Another high rise bein’ raised
Some monumental feat
In some developer’s grand scheme
Another paged tore from my past
Erased off of the map
I know they will never know
They tore down much more than sticks and stones
When they lay low…
When they lay looow…
That house on Houseman road
"HOME IS WHERE THE HURT IS" Writer: Mitch Stephen / B.O.
You'll never know how quiet a house can be until the kids are all moved out and your spouse of 32 years passes away. It's one of the most brutal quiets on the planet.
I hope you never experience it. Those of you that have experienced it know exactly what I'm talking about

[verse]
Never let them tell you
That four walls don’t speak
Last night they cussed the doorway
For allowing you to leave
And those hallowed halls
Cried all night long
Calling your footsteps
Since God called you home
[pre chorus]
It was the saddest sound I ever heard
And I agreed with every word
[chorus]
I just can’t go home…
The silence hurts my ears
I don’t belong…
When you’re not here
Oh and these four walls
Don’t comfort me at all
It hurts me where I live
Now home is where the hurt is
[verse]
I’ve kept your easy chair
Where it’s always been
Like me it wonders
When it’ll hold you again
And the windows
Don’t see you back soon
The lights are on
But no life in the livin’ room
[pre chorus]
You wouldn’t believe how hard it is
Just listenin’ to the clocks tic
[instrumental]
This is one place
I should be happy
But everywhere I turn
There’s a memory that yearns
[chorus]
I just can’t go home…
Even silence hurts my ears
And I just don’t belong…
When you’re not here
Oh and these four walls
Don’t comfort me at all
It hurts me where I live
Now home is where the hurt is
Oh this house was my heart
Now home is where the hurt is
"LAST MAN STANDING"
Writer: Mitch Stephen
STORY BEHIND THE SONG:
My immediate family consisted of 4 people. My Dad, my Mom, ME and my little Brother. My little brother, KLEAT, passed about 26 years ago. My father passed about 6 years ago. If things go in the natural order from here on out, there will be a day when I am the only person left in my family portrait. That day scares the Hell out of me!
That is what "LAST MAN STANDING' is about.

[verse]
That house is so much smaller than I remember
Oh but I was just a kid
I crawled these halls ‘til I could walk
But I don’t remember much ‘bout back then
I do recall, me and little brother
Playin’ football on the lawn
While Daddy was out sellin’
And Momma made this house a home
[pre-chorus]
Kinda hard to believe I’m the last one
And now they’re all gone
[chorus]
It’s a differnt kind a lonely
It’s a differnt kind a sad
And I hope you never truly understand me
And what it’s like…
To be…
The last man standing
[verse]
I can show you a picture
From nineteen sixty-five
Momma and Daddy in the middle
With a kid on each side
[pre chorus]
It was a happy time
But now it’s a little too black and white
[chorus]
It’s a differnt kind a lonely
It’s a differnt kind a sad
And I hope you never truly understand me
And what it’s like…
To be…
The last man standing
[bridge]
Guess I’ll see‘em soon enough.
I wonder if that’s how God
Comforts us
[Half chorus]
Oh I hope you never truly understand me
And what it’s like…To be…
The last man standing
The last man standing

“IF I DIDN’T LOVE YOU”
Writer: Mitch Stephen 12-5-2023
[verse I]
I wake up, you’re the first thought on my mind
I go to sleep, you’re my last thought of the night
And then in between, I struggle to get through
Wond’rin’ what, would make you think
I didn’t love you
[chorus]
If I didn’t love you, I’d just move on
The days and nights would pass
And I wouldn’t count them
One by one
If I didn’t want you, if I didn’t need you
What’s this Hell I’m goin’ through
And tell me why’s this so damn hard
If I didn’t love you
[verse II]
So here’s your song, it’s not the one I meant to write
I hate words, and the blue in your brown eyes
One day you’ll find, in the quiet of its truth
I’d not have taken it so hard
If I didn’t love you
[chorus]
If I didn’t love you, I’d just move on
The days and nights would pass
And I wouldn’t count them
One by one
If I didn’t want you, if I didn’t need you
What’s this Hell I’m goin’ through
And tell me why’s this so damn hard
If I didn’t love you
[modified chorus]
If I didn’t love you, I’d just move on
The days and nights would just pass
I count them, one by one
If I didn’t want you, if I didn’t need you
Why’s this Hell I’m goin’ through
Oh and tell me why’s this so damn hard
Oh why’s this so damn hard
Tell me why’s this so damn hard
If I didn’t love
Oh if I didn’t love you

[Verse]
I’ve got my life, it runs alright
All my bills get paid on time
The sun comes up, the moon goes down
You’d think I’ve got it figured out
Sometimes this world can be too much
When the things you didn’t do, start stackin’ up
The thought runs through my mind
Windshield time
[Chorus]
Grab the keys - Saddle up
Check the tank - there’s just enough
East or West - North or South
I’ll know I’m there - When it’s figured out
And I clear my mind…
Windshield time
[Verse]
I count my gains, I count the loss
Let my conscience, cris and cross
No radio sound, the windows down
My thoughts like wheels go ‘round n ‘round
Starin’ through that piece of glass
I know this feeling’s gonna pass
But until that time arrives
Windshield time
[Modified Chorus]
7 Eleven Coffee up -Top the tank
More than enough
East or West - North or South
I’ll know I’m there when it’s figured out
And I ease my mind
I need a little windshield time
[Bridge]
Rhythm of the road – My lullaby
Grab a hotel – And close my eyes
[Chorus]
Grab the keys - Saddle up
Check the tank there’s just enough
East or West - North or South
I’ll know I’m there when it’s figured out
And I clear my mind
Windshield Time
I need a little windshield time

STORY BEHIND THE SONG: "PLAY'EM AGAIN"
I never worry about "IT'S ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN." Truthfully, it's all been written before...and I DO NOT care!
If I want to write a song about how the "old Songs" can take you back, and someone says to me, "They've already written that song!" I will say to them, "Well of course it's already been written...but it hasn't been written by ME!"
When I want to write a song about something, I am NOT CONCERNED in the least about who else has written on that topic. I am going to write MY VERSION, from MY Prospective, the way I write, and with MY proclivities, in MY words, the way I rhyme and in MY rhythm, the way I form a story! I will write a version of how I SEE THAT TOPIC.
I will write my version for me. If you like my version, I am very happy. If you like someone else's take on the topic, take that version home with you...I am happy.
I am not competing with anyone. I am cataloging my life experiences for me and for me first and foremost...for my own personal library. If somebody likes or loves my version, I am honored AND humbled.
The greatest endeavors in life are the endeavors of your passion. The endeavors that come naturally. The endeavors you cannot stop yourself from. The endeavors that you work at endlessly, yet it still feels like play.
I will write about what interests me, what intrigues me, what pulls on me...
And I really, REALLY, do not care who wrote what before!
Just to be clear.
"PLAY'EM AGAIN" is my take on a familiar topic

13, Fishin’ hole, Me n Daddy and a fishin’ pole
Sit and listen to some Rock-n-Roll as we realed’em in
Backseat, 18, First love, Springsteen, on the radio
Aaw man she was good to go
[chorus]
And the song can take me back
And the words remember when
And the, melody still works it’s magic
No matter where I’m at
And I never get tired of listenin’
Hey play’em again
[verse]
Was 25 when Daddy died, And our whole town cried
And “Amazing Grace” would never sound the same
Crazy after all this time, I can hear, “Rocky Mountain High”
And I can get higher than an Eagle flies
[chorus]
And the song can take me back
And the words remember when
And the melody still works it’s magic
No matter where I’m at
And I never get tired of listenin’
Hey play’em again
[instrumental]
[bridge]
Let the memories play, let the music flow
Every song’s a moment, a place I know
Turn it up, feel the vibe, never let it end
I could listen forever…
Hey play’em again
Oh I never get tired of listenin’
Hey Play’em again
Oh play’em again
Mmmmm
Play’em again
Oh I never get tired of listenin’ to…
Oh play’em again
Hey Mike,
Are you setting the songs with WaterMarks every 15 seconds on purpose?
Are you turning the Musix down 100% during the watermark audio on purpose?
We'd like to enjoy and feel the entire impact of your songs so I hope you don't mind...Just a suggestion...
Move your watermarks to every 30 or 60 seconds.
Reset the WaterMark volume balances; Set the Song Volume at 60% or 70%. This way the song doesn't STOP when the watermark appears.
Right now you have the song reducing 100% when the WaterMark arrives...this blacks out the song altogether. Personally, it's breaking the grove of your music and making the storyline harder to follow. It's all about GROVE and WORDS right?
As always, It is your prerogative, however, I think you can protect your Musix and give the listener a pleasant experience at the same time. You can have both worlds if you just adjust the balances a little.
You can adjust your watermarks where you upload your Musix in the first place.
NEW...You can now create a "custom watermark" using your own voice and your own message!

People assume because I'm from Texas and wear boots, jeans, and a cowboy hat. that I'm strictly country. But long before I fell in love with country Musix, there was a 7 piece pearl drum set I sat behind for hours upon hours. I was honing my chops, and learning to hang with the cutting edge rock bands of the mid 70s.
AeroSmith, Van Halen, Montrose, Legs Diamond, Moxy, Triumph, Yes, AC/DC, Emmerson Lake & Palmer, Pat Travers, Ozzy Osbourn, James Dio, REO Speedwagon, Kansas, Led Zepplin, ZZ Top, Black Oak Arkansas, Ted Nugent, and a little 3 piece band called RUSH.
I played until my hand bled!
So when I say I love some of this out of the box Musix you guys and gals are posting here at MBS, I mean it!
