Shaded desert under a moonlit sky, Holds the truth of the day, Where it's hard to survive, For to survive and prosper, Where the obvious is hidden, Separates the weak from the strong, The content from the driven. Where every grain of sand Carries a story untold, And every shadow stretches Over hearts that grow old. The desert gives no mercy, Yet teaches those who stay: That nothing here is given, Without a heavy price to pay. For beneath the silent moon, Where the restless wander on, The ones who face the darkness Are the ones who greet the dawn. And when the desert finally blooms, After years of barren ground, You'll find the strength you searched for Was within you all along.

Like a Cigarette I feel just like a cigarette, You light me up, You smoke me down, You snuff me out, Then throw me to the ground. You only want me when you’re lonely, Only want me when nights are cold. You hold me close between your fingers, Then act like nothing’s wrong. I burn for you, You never stay. You take my love, Then walk away. Every time I swear I’m through, You strike another match, And again I burn for you. Like a cigarette, I’m just a temporary fix. You take a drag when you need me, Then leave me in the ash. I’m burning down to nothing, And you don’t even care. You leave me on the pavement Like I was never there. I burn for you, You never stay. You take my love, Then walk away. Every time I swear I’m through, You strike a match, And I burn for you. Maybe someday I’ll quit you, Maybe someday I’ll breathe again. Maybe I’ll find somebody Who won’t love me just to leave me in the end. So here’s the last one burning, Here’s the final hit you’ll take. You can keep your empty promises, I’m walking from the flame. ’Cause I ain’t your cigarette, I ain’t your midnight smoke. I ain’t something you can use Every time you’re feeling broke. You can strike another match, You can watch another flame. But when you reach for me this time, I won’t burn the same.
